Chance Operations/FREE/the o show

o my!

I have been introduced to the rest of the Climate Theater community and lots of stuff is coming up. i hope all of you can be at any of these:

The Climate Theater
285 9th Street (at the corner of Folsom)
SF, CA

Chance Operations: Saturday, October 25 8pm to midnight, Ten bucks (sorry)
A one night art and perfermance event that explores the theme of chance in practice, process, motif, presentation or execution. Participating artists include: Kirkman Amyx, Victor Cartegena, Reenie & Maurice Charriere, Luis Delgado, Alan Disparte, Double Vision, Mary Franck, Margueritte Harris & Louis Rawlins, Lynn Kirby, Beth Lilly, Valerie Mendoza, Kathleen Quillian & Gilbert Guerrero, Niki Shapiro, Tim Thompson

The piece in Chance Operations, "... the air we breath" is the beginning of what will be built during my residency in the Microclimate Project Space.

An homage to the ubiquitous FREE sign, I will begin building an igloo from deconstructed magazine and catalog pages I collect from my friends (you) and local neighbors and businesses. The igloo will eventually be set free in the real world, given a clear plastic shell and become my outdoor studio.

Here are the dates:

The residency starts November 1 and ends December 15. During that time, Monday -Friday, 5-8pm, I will work in the Micro-climate semi public project space. The open studio is great for visitors to stop by and forfeit unwanted (preferably glossy and colorful) print media or to have a quick string theory/paper sculpting workshop.

Also, to express how important the ring shape is to our lives, I have invited some artists who also make work based on this idea.

The o Show: Sunday, November 16, 5-8pm FREE
Presenting: Ryan Alexyiev, Climate Curatorial Collective, Jose de los Reyes, Hiroyo Kaneko, Nanda Palmieri, Barbara Rothman, Niki Shapiro, Mario Trejo, Sarah Willis + Jennifer Rarick

FREE: closing reception, December 14, 3-6pm
Come hang out in the suspended igloo made from paper rings. If you dropped off print media, there will be a little paper sculpture with your name on it waiting for you. This is a great time to meet other art and tree loving people or just enjoy the shadows cast by all them o's.

Hope to see you soon!!
